Large terrains

Postby Mast10 on Thu Jun 12, 2008 11:43 am

Hi Again.
As I start to understand more and more of this engine, i was wondering if there is a way of supporting large terrains.
Because i load the whole terrain at once but it doesnt show textures on it because im running out of video memory.
Is there a way to load terrains in game and erase old ones from memory?

Well, if you run out of video memory it's more because you're using large textures than large terrains.
Can you try to reduce the terrain textures by half and try again ?

One more question : how many VRAM do you have on your graphic card ?

Oh my... :D
Try to divide the textures by 2 or 4 using DirectX Texture Tool (shpped with the SDK, just go to "Format" menu and click on "Resize Texture...")
Your textures should be 256 or 512 (max).
